I graduated from NC State University with a B.S. in
Materials Science and Engineering on May 10, 1997. Upon graduation (actually before
graduating), I started as a contractor with Maxim Group on April 28, 1997. I was working
in a group called Nortel Information Network where some of my friends already worked doing
UNIX system administration stuff in supporting ISPs. After 6 months of working for
the contracting company (AKA the "pimps"), I went full time with the same group and
became a full time Northern Telecom (Nortel) employee. I continued doing UNIX system
operations stuff but branched into network operations. I gained some experience here and
moved to doing more network engineering work. The experience in the system administration
and network operations/engineering was very helpful but I decided it was time to move
on. The group was in the process of being sold and I didn't like who the new owners
were going to be or how they ran their business. I left to go to a network operations
job at AT&T Solutions and have liked
the job there. Hopefully, I will move on to network engineering stuff over at AT&T. One
nice benefit to going back to network engineering is working days and not doing rotations.

On a more personal note, I met my love, Heather, when she was visiting NC State before coming
full time from ASU. We started dating about a month later and got married in September 1998. We
went to Seattle for the honeymoon and it was wonderful, if it wasn't so far away, I would ponder
moving out there. Heather has a little dog, a teacup Yorkshire Terrier that is about 4lbs. It is
a little dog that just seems to run and run and run around more. At least it is small, since I am not
exactly a lover of animals. But it makes Heather happy, so it is worth it.
